Walter M. Lifton papers, 1960-1994 and undated.

Collection primarily comprises materials developed by Lifton during the 1960s for elementary and secondary education teachers or guidance counselors working with inner-city children. There are publications (1960-1970 and undated) on work-related issues written by Lifton or for which he served as consultant, including WHAT COULD I BE?, as well as a scrapbook (1964-1965) for his organization, Action for a Better Community, Inc., in Rochester, N.Y. Also contains a set of twelve 35mm color filmstrips [box 2 in the collection] with text written by Lifton for the Society for Visual Education series, "Foundations for Occupational Planning" (1961), including the individual titles "What are job families?" "What is a job?" "Preparing to study," "What good is school?" "Why study?" "What do you like to do?" "How to take a test," "Listening and reading skills," "Who are you?" and "What to ask, how and where to find the answers." There is also one folder containing biographical information for Lifton and three articles by others on the impact of Lifton's work (1969-1994 and undated).
